Scholarship´s Benefits
2 scholarships will be offered to citizens and permanent residents of each of the English-speaking Caribbean member states: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, and; Trinidad and Tobago.
100% of tuition fees for Phase I.

Course Learning Objective
The course aims to understand the framework for the interventions that governments need to make to conserve and continue using the many resources the ocean provides and the international environmental laws towards achieving SDG 14 in order to seek an international cooperation to protect and preserve the marine environment and conserve and sustainably use biodiversity focus on the Caribbean.
This course has been designed for the English speaking Caribbean countries in order to facilitate and harmonize collaborative sustainable development with Spanish speaking countries in Latinamerica, by giving both parts the opportunity to know each other and understand, their organizations, processes and individuals.
Phase I
Online: August 21st to 25th, 2023
The online phase will have a workload of 8 hours per day (4 hours of formal class + 2 hours of open discussion, experiences, Q&A over topics related to the formal class) and 2 hours of independent learning, (through home reading or written works)
Phase II
Onsite: Technical visits based on SDG 14. From August 28th to September 1st, 2023. There is an option to visit the Galapagos Islands after the technical visits.
IMPORTANT: Candidates are responsible for obtaining their own visas, travel insurance, and vaccinations as per their own countries’ and Ecuador’s regulations.
Applicant’s Profile
The course is intended for government officials, mid-career professionals, educators, researchers and civil society members that have coastal and marine responsibilities, functions or interests, from countries within the Caribbean Region.
Elegibility
- Be a citizen or a legal permanent resident of an English-speaking Caribbean member state.
- Have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) at the time of applying for the scholarship.
- Submit a complete application form with all the supporting documents required.
- Be in good health condition to complete the course requirements.
The OAS will consider ineligible an application submitted by:
- Current OAS scholarship recipients.
- OAS Staff/Consultants and immediate relatives.
- Staff of the Permanent Missions to the OAS and their immediate relatives.
